Courgettes are one of the most productive vegetables you can grow, turning a single plant into a steady summer glut from just one sowing. They’re vigorous and need space, but ask for little beyond regular watering and picking.

Sow indoors in individual pots to get ahead of slugs.

Pick every 2-3 days while young and tender — they grow fast.
Growing tips & common problems
- Harvest at 15-20cm — leave them and the plant stops producing new fruit.
- Hand-pollinate with a paintbrush early in the season if fruit is forming but rotting at the tip.
- Give each plant at least a metre of space — they sprawl further than they look like they will.
